While the reason for his move is currently unclear, a source noted that it happened “very quickly” and seemingly out of the blue.

He enjoyed walking around the local area, but he really enjoyed jumping into a helicopter at Battersea Heliport and flying over the quintessentially British countryside.”

The source continued: “It all happened very quickly; it was a surprise to the staff at the building his penthouse is in. It’s the weirdest. The UK has become both his professional headquarters and private playground, with low-key meetings, well-guarded moves and late-night arrivals.”

“England has become much more than a filming base,” they added of Cruise’s sudden departure.

The actor once labeled himself an “Anglophile”

Before Cruise’s decision to apparently return to the US, he had become well known for his love of Britain, where he had been making films for over 40 years.

Last year, the actor was recognized for his contribution to the UK film industry and was awarded a BFI Fellowship by the British Film Institute.

At the event in May, Cruise said: “I’m really honoured, I’ve been making films in the UK for over 40 years and I’m not going to stop.”

In 2022, the actor also labeled himself an “Anglophile” because he spent “a lot of time in Britain, and that’s not just for work.”

“I just love being here,” he said at the time, according to him Daily Mail. “It’s a fantastic mix of old and new… Britain is also fashionable and has a lot that other countries then copy. I also love the British countryside.”

Cruise was also said to be interested in buying some property in the Cotswolds as he hoped to strengthen his ties to the UK, making his sudden departure, which reportedly included removing the curtains from the penthouse, all the more baffling.

Cruise, who has become somewhat of a face for the Church of Scientology due to his vocal support over the years, has recently come under fire after locals made complaints about him and his organization.

The actor makes it a point to attend the annual Church of England fundraiser. However, last year’s edition in December reportedly “enraged” East Grinstead residents because of the disruption it brought to their daily lives.

The small town located in West Sussex is home to the Church’s UK headquarters and often receives large numbers of guests when such events take place.

During the actual event, more such chaos would ensue as the Church uses generators to power heavy equipment and also plays loud musical instruments.

Reports suggest that the community feels “helpless” about what to do as some leaders in the town also attend the Church and have a good relationship with the organisation.

Locals have filed a complaint against Tom Cruise’s church

It is alleged to cause traffic congestion and noise pollution. The complaint would lead to a review of the Church’s premises license.
