Jeffrey Epstein, the wealthy US financier who was arrested in 2019 on federal charges of child sex trafficking, has been accused by prosecutors of running a years-long abuse ring involving underage girls. Following the latest release of files related to the investigation, his name has resurfaced in the public discourse, most unexpectedly, among NASCAR fans.
The US Department of Justice earlier this week began releasing additional files related to the individual, including records related to lawsuits against his associates. These communications consist of emails, depositions, contact lists, and personal writings collected during investigations. Crucially, the documents contain raw material rather than verified findings, meaning names can appear without any accompanying allegations or evidence of criminal conduct.

A document released by authorities surfaced on Reddit and sent shockwaves through the NASCAR community as the world of motorsports was unexpectedly drawn into the conversation after a brief mention of Joe Gibbs in the files. The documents, which include raw personal writings kept as part of the broader Epstein case file, contained a passing reference to the NASCAR Hall of Famer.
However, the citation did not allege any wrongdoing against Gibbs or describe any misconduct. However, the appearance of such a prominent figure in material related to one of the most notorious criminal cases in recent history has left fans reeling.
After reading the document, NASCAR fans expressed confusion and concern. A fan he commented, “On days like today, I wish I’d never grown up and still thought of all these people I saw involved in circle racing as superheroes. Instead, I have to cringe every time I look at any Brian Vickers models I own (which sucks because I really like his 2006 car).”
Another weighed in saying: “It was very creepy to read, I will say.”

A third fan stepped forward to state: “It seems like a big leap to claim that from a single mention of him.” while another commented, “IMO, this shitshow is so deep we may never know. I’m not saying Gibbs is guilty, but god, this crap goes so far down the rabbit hole. Makes me want to stop pursuing ‘elite’ status entirely because what you thought was good turns into bullshit.”
In the handwritten sections, which appear to be personal notes or diary entries from an alleged victim, Gibbs is described briefly and in positive terms, unlike other figures named in the same passages. The text does not feature any action, interaction, or accusation involving Gibbs. However, the fact that he was mentioned in the document shows that there was some connection between Epstein and Gibbs, which upset much of the community.

Added to the online debate is the reappearance of a separate documenta standard passenger release and indemnity agreement related to Joe Gibbs Racingand since January 2013. The waiver, commonly used by organizations that operate private aircraft, releases the company from liability related to the risks of air travel and contains no reference to Epstein, minors or any illegal activity.

Such waivers are routine in professional sports, including NASCAR, and are designed to protect teams from civil liability in the event of injury or accident while on private trips. Even so, the document’s circulation alongside Epstein-related materials fueled online speculation, blurring the distinction between unrelated records and amplifying public backlash.
There is no indication in the available documents that Gibbs himself is linked to any wrongdoing. One possible explanation offered online is that an aircraft associated with Gibbs or his organization could have been used by someone later connected to the scandal, rather than Gibbs himself. In a separate and previously reported matter, former Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder, whose franchise Gibbs coached from 1981 to 1991, was also mentioned in connection with the Epstein-related reports.
However, Snyder sued MEAWW (Media Entertainment Arts WorldWide) publications for publishing stories claiming that Snyder faced sex-trafficking allegations and was “on Epstein’s list.”
Interestingly, this was not the first time a NASCAR personality’s name has been confused with Epstein. Former Joe Gibbs Racing driver wife of Brian VickersSarah Kensington, also known as Sarah Kellen, is said to have been a personal secretary to Epstein and helped her procure underage girls for sexual exploitation.
