The sea of orange cones and zigzing traffic models forced Lubbock suburb to avoid some major roads and highways due to the stress and confusion of several projects ongoing.
Among them is a long-lasting state project to redesign the 19th street through Central Lubbock. Over the past few years, business and suburban people have voted greatly on seemingly endless road work on 19th street.

According to the Texas Transport Department, the project, which began in 2022, should be wrapped in early next year; However, Lubbock just started another project that will take well in the 2030s to fill in only part of it – Loop 88.
When both projects are well executed, here’s what TXDOT says about everyone and when they are expected to be completed.

Initially, the 19th Street project is expected to be completed in 2025. June, said Dianah Coronado, TXDOT Lubbock district public information officer, but faced delay because the crew discovered the problems of water and storm sewer systems.
“What was in the plan and what was actually under the driveway, there were some discrepancies,” Coronado said. “It took some plans that took some time and then had to order some materials to make changes that were made in the plans.”

It took a while, but in the three sections of the 19th street there are construction.
Interstate 27 to Avenue q (Depot district)
Currently, crews are trying to install driveways, curbs and gutters on the southern side of the 19th street.
“When this specific work is completed, the next step is to put asphalt on the road or put the driveway,” Coronado said. “Now it’s not the final surface of the road, but what we call the first course.”
Avenue q to University Avenue (opposite Lubbock High School)
Crews try again to install drives, curbs and gutters in this part of the street. However, another one of the tape comes to this section.
“The current plan is to switch the entire traffic from Avenue Q to Avenue U in the next couple of weeks to a new western lane and, when they do it, they can start working with rainwater system and water ties on the east side,” said Coronado.

Although most of the water system is completed, Coronado said crews also work in its parts from avenue U to avenue X, 19 on the street.
However, when completed, the road will be paved with the first layer of the final process.
University Avenue to Memphis Avenue (opposite Texas Tech, Covenant Health)
“These actually consist of only crews arranged by road signs, things such as regulatory signs, speed limit signs, similar things,” said Coronado.
However, all the main work of the road was completed and is just waiting for the final treatment path that TXDOT will put on all three sections at the same time as all the work is completed.
The final end of this project is expected to take place in 2026. March
When everything was said and done, Coronado said TXDOT shifts 19th street management and maintenance towards the city of Lubbock.
The Loop 88 project is in the decades of being fully completed

Unlike 19th Street, Coronado said the New Loop 88 project south and west of Lubbock.

Coronado said TXDOT focuses on 88 Loop 88 in section 3, especially in stages:

“They continue to military main bands on 88 loops,” Coronado said. “Basically, this is most of the work they do now, is the bridge deck, casting, working on the median intersections, bridge intersections and working in those main bands on the loop 88.”.

The completion of 3A and 3B is expected to be 2026, and Chapter 3C will start accepting contractors’ tenders in 2026. October However, after 3C, there are three additional sections that will still be completed.
“It is believed that the 3 segment will take somewhere between 15 and 20 years; if there is funding,” Coronado said.
In addition, there are three more main sections where the work has not even begun:

Chapters 1 and 2 – US 84 (the most secure) in the US 62/82 (Wolffformy).

Chapter 4 – US 87 (South Lubbock) to US 84 (Slaton).
