Topenna, the second longest in River, in Tamil Nadu, India, is so contaminated with industrial chemicals, heavylitors, plastic and pharmaceuticals that it kills crops and water life.
What is going on?
The Times of India reported that the 300 miles of the river was once worshiped by Indians a few centuries ago, when the water had been undamaged and the life of plants flourished. Now toxic foam is floating by the river and farmers cannot use water due to contamination.
“We used to feed our fields in the past,” a local farmer told News Outlet. “Now it kills our harvest.”
“Now the crop was shaking when irrigated with contaminated water. A decade ago I collected 300 Quinals [33 tons] cabbage for acre. Now it has fallen to 140 [15.4 tons]; Even it is difficult with chemical foam. ”
Most of the pollution is provided by Bengalur, the bustling of more than 13 million city and the main industry center. Because industrial wastewater, such as detergents and other chemicals, flows downstream through the Kelavararapalli dam, they reach small villages where farmers rely on the river to irrigate thousands of acres of cultivated land.
Over the past few years, many farmers have complained that high levels of pollution impossible to grow in crops. Not to mention that dirty water is a risk to people living after topenna. Redy wastewater from Bengalura was also found in the river more than eight times more than a safe bathing threshold.

Farmers contacted government agencies about the toxic condition of the river, but according to the locals, no action was taken in India’s time.
Why is thepennai in the river?
Farmers depend on clean, safe water to grow healthy plants for their families and communities. India is also the main exporter of various plants, so the contaminated river could affect the regions for Tamil Nadu.
The dangerous amount of chemicals and bacteria from sewerage is a threat to wildlife and river ecosystems that in turn affect people if they are no longer able to fish or swim in the water. In short, the main pollution on waterways has a major impact on all forms of life.
The changing climate is further strained in Indian rivers due to improper rainfall models, higher temperatures, glacial melt and more frequent drought. Extreme weather is not new, but the human climate crisis overloads these air events and is further harmful to communities and the environment.

These changes can reduce the amount of oxygen in water, disrupt biodiversity and cause water deficiency. All of this makes it difficult for people who rely on rivers that livelihoods will survive. If rivers suffer from frequent pollution, it can eventually have a major impact on food and water safety.
What is done to clean the river?
The district collector of Krishnagiri, the city of Tamil Nadu, told The Times that “steps are taken to form a river and nearby industrial evaluation committee.”
The Central Pollution Control Board, the Government Department of Environment, also recommended the restoration of several lakes in the area to clean pollution. However, the locals have said so far that “nothing has been done”, and some fear thepenna can never recover.
Environmental organizations such as Sunga Watch, The Ocean Cleanup and The Great Bubble Barrier have developed innovative technologies to prevent plastics and other pollutants from entering the main water roads.
Perhaps a similar solution can be used by Tomepennai, although chemical contaminants will need to renovate wastewater treatment plants, according to the Indian Institute of Madra Institute of Technology, during Indian times.
Small river cleaning agents organized by the locals can also significantly change your area. If there is a river next to you, it is worth checking out the security groups that participate in these efforts.
