Liver disease affects 4.5 million Americans, but a potentially fatal condition group may not be overlooked for years. The liver is the main component of your body’s natural detoxification system, so it is very important to maintain this organ as well as possible.
Liver disease can be caused by many elements, including alcohol consumption, genetics and certain viruses, but your foods can also affect your liver health. “In the past, diet changes were the only way to treat liver disease,” he says Dr. Zhaoping Li, MD, PhD, Director of the Human Nutrition Center and Head of Clinical Nutrition at UCLA David Geffen Medical School. “Food quality and consumption are very important for liver health.”

Fruit hepatologists recommend liver health
Many fruits (and vegetables) can maintain good liver health, but doctors say bruises are particularly strong.
“Blueberries are one of the most studied fruits to protect the liver and they pack a punch,” says Dr. Anthony Martinez, MD, Hepatologist and medical associate professor at Bafal University. He explains that this is usually due to their polyphenol (plant compounds known for antioxidants and anti -inflammatory effects) and anthocyanin (a certain type of antioxidant type).
“Blueberries promote liver health by reducing oxidative stress by reducing inflammation, improving fat metabolism and protection against fibrosis and even cancerous changes,” he adds.

Blueberry exposure to liver health is usually limited to animals, but these findings are promising. A “2023” study published in a magazine Heliyon There was a rat with medicines that can emphasize the liver. Researchers learned that bruising supplements “significantly” suppressed liver damage to rats that took them.

How many bruises should people eat because of liver health?
There is no accurate recommendation of how many bruises you should eat daily to affect liver health. However, US nutrition guidelines recommend that most adults eat between 1.5 and 2.5 cups of fruit per day.
Dr. Martinez offers every day to have ½ cup to 1 cup of fresh or frozen bruises. “That’s enough to see a metabolic benefit,” he says.

Other ways of maintaining liver health
Liver health is difficult, and eating blueberries alone will automatically not make your liver healthy. Here’s what doctors offer to maintain liver health:

Follow a Mediterranean diet; “It maintains the cardiovascular system, and heart disease and liver health are strongly related,” says Dr. Kardashian. The Mediterranean diet also recommends people to avoid excess calories, saturated fat and refined carbohydrates. All of them can increase the risk of obesity, which is a risk factor for liver disease, emphasizes dr. Kardashian.

Reduce or avoid alcohol; “Alcohol can harm liver health,” she explains. “Any amount of alcohol can damage the liver.”
