Christmas Eve and Christmas Day fall on a Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, this year. Many banks, post offices and public services are often closed or have reduced hours on holidays.
And this year, President Donald Trump signed an executive order declaring Christmas Eve a federal holiday. Many Americans may wonder how this affects the places where government employees work.
Here’s which businesses and public services will be open and closed on December 24th and 25th in Greater Cincinnati.
What is open and closed on Christmas Eve in Greater Cincinnati?
Are banks open on Christmas Eve?
According to the Federal Reserve, banks will follow their typical opening hours for business on December 24. Some branches may close early on Christmas Eve, so it’s best to check with your local branch for specific holiday hours.
Are FedEx, UPS and USPS open on Christmas Eve?
FedEx office locations will have modified hours on Christmas Eve, with some locations closing earlier. It’s best to check with your local store for specific hours of operation on December 24th. Early pick-up and delivery box pickups will be available in some areas for FedEx Expedited Parcel and Air Freight services on Christmas Eve, according to the FedEx website. FedEx LTL shipping services are not available.
UPS Store locations will be open, according to the UPS website. UPS will offer a normal delivery service on Christmas Eve, but a reduced pickup service. UPS On-Call Pickup service is available for Air and International Air packages. UPS Next Day Air packages picked up on Christmas Eve will be scheduled for delivery on December 26th. There will be no UPS Ground service pickup that day.
Post offices will be open for retail transactions on December 24 and mail will be delivered on those days.

The City of Cincinnati’s garbage collection schedule will not be affected on Christmas Eve.
Are schools open on Christmas Eve?
Cincinnati Public Schools, Covington Independent Schools, Newport Independent Schools, Kenton County Schools, Boone County Schools and Campbell County Schools will be closed for winter break.
