People are telling this MAGA grandmother to ‘pull her claws’ after she lost her government assistance

Hi, I’m Alexa, and I usually use this space to track Donald Trump’s “hot” economy, but we also need to examine how his policies affect ordinary people — especially his loyal followers. So welcome Donnie Hate Clock.

It’s no secret that President Donald Trump has pushed to end social programs like the Affordable Care Act huge part of his personality.

Throughout his first term, campaign season and second presidency, the 79-year-old has relentlessly pursued programs designed to help low- and middle-income Americans.

This includes cuts to Medicaid, previously withholding SNAP benefits and threatening to suspend them in Minnesota, cuts to homeless assistance, the proposal to eliminate the Low-Income Housing Energy Assistance Program and more.

Despite the president’s egregiousness, his loyal base often seems surprised by the elimination of programs they’ve come to depend on.

Among them is this Trump voter, whom we’ll call Dianne. Online, Dianne complained about “an increase” in welfare programs, which she describes as “state control, redistribution and dependency.”

“The same people celebrating… will be the ones dealing with tax hikes and budget deficits tomorrow. Funds will dry up and collide with economic reality,” Dianne posted online.

Social democratic politics – which is defined by a belief in stronger social safety nets – is dangerous and bad, according to Dianne.

Unless, apparently, those programs benefit her family, because Dianne also responded to one of Trump’s posts with the following: “We’re patiently waiting for the prices to come down.”

“Unfortunately, the federal cuts have affected my elderly mother and other elderly people – my mother received a notice that there is no HEAP money available. Why would you cut funding that helps people heat their homes?” she asked.

Note: HEAP is a federally funded program that helps low-income residents pay their heating and cooling bills. The program experienced a delay in funding after Trump has cut his staff.

In response to Dianne’s posts, commenters stopped at nothing when trying to make sense of her shocking beliefs. Most made the typical “you voted for it” jokes.

“Well DiAnne, you voted for your elderly mother to pull herself together,” wrote Reddit user Divacai.

“Dianne, why does your mother need redistribution and socialism? Shouldn’t you be celebrating the end of her dependence on the state? You got what you voted for,” added CalcareousSoil.

Others have suggested that Dianne is footing her mother’s bill to avoid using the welfare programs he is so strongly against.

“Socialism is bad, so I think they better start paying Gram’s utility bills,” PrivatePilot9 said. “I’m sure he’s got plenty of extra cash anyway, with everything being so cheap these past few months.”

The post made people wish it was necessary for participants to understand what kind of program they were signing up for.

“I swear people should sign a document admitting that their ACA subsidy, unemployment, disability, social security, snap, their wic, their HEAP, their VA benefits, medicare, etc etc. ARE the politics of socialism,” ktaktb said.

But who knows if that would help conservatives recognize its benefits.

“Dianne is learning the hard way what democratic socialism really is,” said nada-accomplished.

Commenters generally felt that too often MAGA tends to justify these programs to themselves and leave little understanding for others.

“The only moral guidelines are for my family, to hell with everyone else— [Dianne,] apparently,” Ijustlovevideogames said.
