The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints names 14 men to board, including ‘Chosen’ producer and popular YouTuber

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that it has named 14 men to its General Youth Council. Among those named are several faith-based YouTubers and the co-founder of the TV series “The Chosen.”

According to the Church, the Young Men’s Organization leads the church’s guidelines, training and activities for all young men between the ages of 12 and 18 in the church. The Young Men’s General Presidency, consisting of two counselors and a president, “advises, inspires, and instructs the bishoprics, who lead, teach, and support the young men in their congregation and lead the local Young Men organization.”

The Young Men’s General Council, including those just appointed, assist the Young Men’s General Presidency in carrying out their duties.

Fourteen Utahns have been appointed to the board and bring a wide variety of experience. Two of them have faith-based YouTube channels. Additionally, one founded and worked on “The Chosen,” a religious TV series, and many have worked for the Church in a variety of roles.

ABC4 has compiled information about the new appointees and their educational and professional backgrounds, based on public information and biographies from the Church. Notably, this does not include their previous religious service, which can be found at church website.

Luke J. Nichols in Alaska: Nichols has a political science degree from BYU and a juris doctorate and previously practiced criminal defense law as the managing partner of Nichols & Green PLLC in Virginia. According to a 2021 post on social media from Nichols, he is also the creator behind Outdoor Boys, a popular YouTube channel with over 18 million subscribers. Notably, he uploaded a farewell video to that YouTube channel earlier this year, but has continued to upload videos.

Agbor T. Agbor in Salt Lake County: Agbor graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in marketing. He currently serves as President of Utah Water Systems LLC.

Derral E. Eves in Hurricane: Eves graduated from Southern Utah University. He is the co-founder and executive producer of “The Chosen” and the CEO of Creatus. According to their website, Creatus is a marketing company that has worked with a variety of businesses and creators, from Google to Mr. Beast. Within the Church, he has served as an elders quorum president, bishopric counselor, bishop, stake presidency counselor, and full-time missionary.

Rogelio Osuna in Herriman: Osuna has a degree in business management from BYU and previously worked for Goldman Sachs. Now he works for the Missionary Department of the Church and helps develop missionary training centers around the globe.

Daniel E. Mendoza García in Santaquin: García worked in various companies in the manufacturing industry after graduating with an associate degree in industrial engineering. He has served as counselor in three mission presidencies, high counselor, counselor in a stake Young Men presidency, bishop, and bishop’s counselor.

John Hilton III in Orem: Hilton previously earned a master’s degree from Harvard and a doctorate in education from Brigham Young University. He works as a professor of religious education at BYU and has published several religious books and online courses.

Walter G. Queiroz Jr. in Highland, Queiroz Jr has a degree in accounting and currently oversees a mining company in Brazil and a commercial care company in Utah.

Richard P. Kaufusi in Salt Lake County: Kaufusi earned degrees in education and English from Utah Tech College (formerly Dixie College), BYU and UofU. He has served on several executive and educational boards, including at the Primary Children’s Hospital. Kaufusi now works for Wolfgramm Capital in the manufacturing sector.

G. Sheldon Martin in West Haven: Martin has degrees in political science, mental health counseling, and behavioral health from Arizona State University. He has worked for the Church for 21 years and is currently the director of member information in the Priesthood and Family Department.

Anthony R. Sweat in Springville: Sweat has degrees in painting and drawing from UofU and education from USU. He has worked in the educational system of the Church and is now the director of the department of Church history and doctrine at Brigham Young University.

Steve K. Mutombo in Lehi: Mutombo has a degree in information technology, a graduate degree in business management and a master’s degree in public administration with an emphasis in finance and information systems. He currently works as a financial consultant at a consulting firm and previously worked for the Church as a buyer and fleet manager, travel supervisor and regional support services manager.

Clinton E. Udy in Eagle Mountain: Udy previously graduated from Idaho State University and USU and now works for the church as the regional director for the Seminaries and Institutes of Religion department.

Parker Aaron Walbeck in Lehi: Walbeck teaches video production and social media marketing through online courses and on his Full-Time Filmmaker YouTube channel, which has over 2 million subscribers. Additionally, he runs a faith-based YouTube channel called True Millennial.

Kazuhiko Yamashita in Provo: Yamashita has degrees in education and sports science and has also studied philosophy of physical education and sport. He currently teaches at BYU and works as an internship coordinator.
