The craft beer apocalypse, which industry experts say began in 2023, is now in its third year and continues to take its toll.
The apocalypse appears to have begun in 2023 after the Brewers Association posted a record number of craft brewery closures of more than 385 for the year, Easter reported. Since then, many other craft breweries have closed their doors.
The evidence is overwhelming that the apocalypse has continued into 2025, as more than 250 US breweries closed for good in the first six months of the year, and many more followed those closures in the second half of the year.
Among the reasons cited for the brewery closings were rising ingredient, labor and product costs, slowing bar traffic and fierce retail competition, according to American Craft Beer.
One of the most recent closings was Miamisburg, Ohio-based craft brewery Entropy Brewing Company, which revealed on social media that it will close for good on December 27, 2025, with no plans yet to file for bankruptcy.
Others that filed for Chapter 7 liquidation and planned to close were the brewery in St. Petersburg, Florida-based Dissent Craft Brewing, which filed for bankruptcy in August; Iron Hill Brewery LLC, based in Exton, Pa., and Strike Brewing Company, based in San Jose, Calif., both filed in October; and Oregon-based Rogue Ales & Spirits, which filed in November.

And now, New Mexico-based Bosque Brewing Company is closing all of its bar locations and going out of business after a federal judge dismissed the brewer’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy case on Dec. 22 because it had too much debt to reorganize, Albuquerque’s KOB-TV 4 reported.
Dismissal of the Chapter 11 case will likely prompt the beer company to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, unless it can settle all of its debts with its creditors out of court.
Bosque Brewing said it will close all of its remaining pubs on Dec. 28 at 5 p.m. MST in a message it posted on its website Dec. 26.
“It is with heavy hearts that we are closing all Bosque pubs. Nob Hill will close today (26th December) at 5pm and the rest of the bars will close on Sunday 28th December at 5pm,” the message said.
The brewery had 11 locations in New Mexico before closing The Drinkery at 4980 Promenade Blvd. and Pizza sa Restuare at 1607 Alcaldesa St., both in Santa Fe, on Dec. 3.
Bosque followed the closures in Santa Fe with two more of its locations in Albuquerque, NM on December 16th, as it closed its Bosque West and Bosque San Mateo Public House restrooms.
With the closing of the Nob Hill location, Bosque Brewing has five more locations that will close at the end of the day on December 28th.
“Bosque was built on community, and we are forever grateful to everyone who has supported our taprooms, shared a pint with us and made our spaces feel like home,” the owners of Bosque Brewing wrote in a statement.
“Most of all, thank you to our incredible team, past and present. We will really miss seeing your faces in our restrooms. That part hurts,” the message read.

Two locations that share facilities with Bosque Brewing, Restoration Pizza at 5161 Lang and Smothered Brunch at 102 Cottonwood, both in Albuquerque, will remain open because they are owned and operated by unrelated entities. Both restaurants serve Bosque beers.
The Cottonwood location was a dual concept, Smothered Brunch, not owned by Bosque Brewing, serving breakfast and brunch from 7am to 2pm and Bosque Brewing taking over the space from 3pm to close.
Smothered Brunch will continue its operation from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., while Bosque Brewing closes from 3:00 p.m. until close of business.
Restoration Pizza on Lang was also not owned by Bosque Brewing and continues to operate.
However, Bosque’s beer is not going away and will continue to be brewed and sold by Marble Brewery in Albuquerque, with some of the Bosque Brewing staff continuing with Marble.
More closures:
Bosque currently offers nine beers on tap, including Weekend Trails Southwest Pale IPA, Riverwalker India Pale Ale, Jetty Jack American Amber Ale, Elephants on Parade Wheat Ale With Fruit, Scotia Scotch Ale, Beyond The Trees Hard Cider, Up North Blonde Ale, Pistol Pete’s 1888 Blonde Ale and Salt Money Limeger with Salt Money Limeger.
Bosque’s closing message and beer list are the only information about the company available on its website, which was still operational on December 28.

The 13-year-old beer and pizza chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to reorganize its business after adding locations in 2024 and bringing brewing operations back to its New Mexico home in September 2025.
Bosque filed his petition in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Mexico on Oct. 6, listing assets of $1 million to $10 million and debts of $10 million to $50 million, but did not disclose the reason for filing bankruptcy in his petition.
