Confidence in VA care in Maine on the rise, study finds

Enrollment for VA health care is also increasing

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs says a new study finds trust in Maine’s VA health care system is on the rise. According to a survey released Wednesday, confidence in the Maine system is now 94.6 percent, up from 88.9 percent in 2018, the first year the VA conducted the survey. The survey also found that nationwide confidence in VA outpatient care increased to 91.8 percent, up from 85.6 percent in 2018. The numbers are based on a survey of veteran patients who received VA health care in last 90 days. Within a week of using VA services, these veterans were asked if they trusted the VA for their health care needs in various categories – including appointment scheduling, health care visits, personal pharmacy, mail order pharmacy, labs/ imaging, and veteran safety. “We support a noble mission and our employees contribute in countless ways to make VA Maine a system that veterans trust for their care,” said VA Maine Medical Center Director Tracy B. Davis. “When they come together every day to put veterans first, we accomplish amazing things. I am honored to be a part of this phenomenal community.” The VA enrolled 401,006 veterans in VA health care last year — 30 percent more than the 307,831 enrolled the year before. This is the largest single-year enrollment in at least five years in Virginia and a nearly 50 percent increase over 2020’s pandemic-level enrollment.
