Parineeti Chopra recently opened up about her early struggles in the industry and said that she started flying business class only after her fifth film.

Bollywood actor Parineeti Chopra, who was recently seen in Amar Singh Chamkila, discussed her early years in the film industry, revealing that she wasn’t making too much money at the time. Luxuries like flying business class seemed out of reach, and she didn’t think about them until later in her career. The actor recalled when a colleague from Mumbai taunted her that she couldn’t afford a marathon on Rs 4 lakh every month.

Speaking to Raj Shamani on his podcast, Parineeti said, “I don’t come from a very wealthy background. Actually I am a very simple middle class girl. I really don’t understand Bollywood. I really don’t know how people work in Mumbai. I don’t have these high profile friends. I don’t have a trainer, a stylist, everything is already ready for me. And people who were already from here and already knew this world judged me a lot.”

Parineeti explained that she did not earn much in the first few years of her career. She recalled that someone had offered to hire a trainer for around Rs 2 lakh a month to lose weight, along with a nutritionist who cost almost the same.

She said, “I thought, ‘I don’t have 4 lakh a month to pay. I don’t make this money. This is my third film. And I remember going to an actor of mine who definitely grew up in Bombay, in that world, and of course he came from a place of privilege. He said, “Why don’t you hire these people? And I said, “Listen, I really can’t afford it.” I was paid 5 lakhs for my first film. He said, “If you can’t afford it, then you shouldn’t be in this profession.”

She said that experiencing luxury like flying in business class and first class came much later in her life. The actor thought about it until he finished his fifth film and checked his bank account, realizing that he could finally she allowed herself to buy the things she wanted, like bags and shoes. The actor added: “At the time, a lot of people were like, ‘Look, you have to wear this, you have to wear that.’ And I was thinking in my head, ‘But I can’t right now. Like, give me time. And I was judged for it. It’s very strange, it happens.”

Parineeti is currently seen in the film Amar Sigh Chamkila opposite Diljit Dosanjh. The movie is streaming on Netflix.
