DUBLIN, OH, November 9, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Cardinal Health (NYSE: CAH) today announced the US launch of its breathable SmartGown™ EDGE surgical gown with ASSIST™ instrument pockets, designed to provide surgical teams with safe and convenient access to instruments in the operating room. Exclusively offered by Cardinal Health, the gown is designed to accommodate one recommended instrument in each pocket during surgical procedures, helping to ensure operational efficiency and allowing clinical teams to focus on providing safe patient care.
The SmartGown™ EDGE is made with chest pockets that can keep commonly used surgical instruments* within easy reach while surgeons and clinicians work in complex sterile fields. The gown’s unique pocket design helps minimize potential contamination and inadvertent instrument drop outside the sterile area. With SmartGown™ EDGE, surgical teams can store reusable instruments* in gown pockets, helping to reduce the handing or exchange of instruments during a procedure while promoting potential time savings and self-sufficiency.
The creation of the SmartGown™ EDGE is the result of a collaboration with Cardinal Health, Mayo Clinic and co-inventors Joseph DiraniMD, director of pediatric and adult congenital heart surgery and Salim WoljiMD, a retired Mayo Clinic cardiothoracic surgeon.
