Charli XCX has revealed she is working on new music with her fiance George Daniel.
The 31-year-old pop star, who announced her engagement to The 1975 drummer last month, has been in the studio recording tracks for her next album and teaming up with her husband-to-be on the new material.
She told the Spout podcast: “We did a few things together. We have a few ideas in development.
“It’s funny, I’ve never had a relationship with anyone I’ve worked with, so it’s like a whole new dynamic, but it’s cool.
“There will probably be a few songs that he worked on with me.”
She enjoyed seeing George, 33, and bandmate Matty Healy collaborate in the studio and learning from the way they have a “completely different” process to her.
She explained: “They take a long time when they’re recording and I’ve generally been very quick in the past.
“It was part of my process, this spontaneous, instinctual thing.
“Being around them, I’ve definitely adapted to the idea of sitting on songs, reworking things, playing them to friends, going back and forth and just living with the songs a little bit more, so that’s one of the ways my process is perfected.’
Meanwhile, the Boom Clap hitmaker admitted he finds it too “stressful” as a musician to send songs to other people ahead of time to get feedback.
She added: “It’s so stressful to have another pop star’s music on your phone. It’s like walking around with a bomb in your bag. It’s so stressful.
Charlie and George first worked together in 2021 when they joined forces to record Spinning.
The couple announced the news that they were engaged on Instagram, captioning their post: “charli xcx and george f***ing for life!”
She shared a carousel of images. including a romantic photo of George, 33, dunking her as the two share a kiss.
In another photo, Charlie – whose real name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison – showed off her diamond engagement ring in a box between two cups of tea.
The couple first sparked dating rumors in March 2022 when they were spotted holding hands on a walk around New York.
Her record label, Atlantic Records, took to Twitter to confirm the news, writing: “Huge congratulations to @charli_xcx and George Daniel on their engagement.”
The couple were soon congratulated by their celebrity friends, as 1975 frontman Matty Healy wrote: “Crying.”
Meanwhile, New Rules singer Dua Lipa added: “aaaaaaahhhhh!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ congratulations lovebirds!!!!!’
And Rita Ora said, “How did I know this was going to happen. Yeah ❤️’
Just hours earlier, Charli sparked speculation she was engaged after uploading a selfie wearing a sparkling diamond ring.
The photo was posted on her personal Instagram account 360_brats and started circulating on social media.
While some thought the silver band was an engagement ring, others said it was actually on her right hand, with the camera flipping the image to make it look like it was on her left.
However, the singer later confirmed the news in the evening with her sweet post.
Charlie and George went public with their relationship in May last year.
The couple went Instagram official and shared a slew of snaps from their sun-kissed break ahead of the European leg of her Crash World Tour.
Charlie and George’s paths first crossed when they were working on her song Spinning and they collaborated again on the flop of her album.
Of their songwriting partnership, Charlie previously told The Sun: “Now that I’m in a relationship with another musician, he’s influenced me a lot with his process and the way he and his band work.
“It’s really different from how I work, and it’s definitely affected me and my process. I used to be very “Quick, quick, quick, album a month, go for it”.
“Now I’m like, ‘Oh, maybe it’s great to take some time and live in the music you’re making.'” My process is definitely evolving.
Before her relationship with George, Charlie had a long-term relationship with Huck Kwong.
The pair were together for more than seven years but split after previously revealing how quarantine together during the lockdown ‘saved their relationship’.
It’s a busy time for Charli as she teams up with fellow pop singer Sam Smith on her new track In The City, which has been described as a nightclub disco track.
She previously explained that the song is about “connecting” with others during wild nights.
She said: “The song is about finding the people you truly love and connecting with through wild nights and parties in magical places.”
The Hot In It hitmaker added at the time that “acceptance” was the song’s main message.
She also noted that it serves as a way to “accept” those in the queer community.
She added: “It’s about feeling accepted, the magnificence of being welcomed into strange spaces and those once-in-a-lifetime people you get to meet when you’re there.”
Charli first rose to prominence in 2012 with her Icona Pop collaboration I Love It, and in the same year she contributed to Iggy Azalea’s Fancy.
In 2023, Charlie released Speed Drive, which was featured on the Barbie soundtrack and became a TikTok sensation.
