City of Clemson partners with Intellicheck to equip businesses with ID scanning app to address underage alcohol use

MELVILLE, New York, April 16, 2024— (BUSINESS WIRE) — Intellicheck, Inc. (Nasdaq: IDN) and the City of Clemson today announced the launch of a new pilot program aimed at addressing underage drinking. The 12-month pilot will allow 15 local bars, convenience stores and liquor stores to use Intellicheck’s state-of-the-art mobile technology ID verification application. Intellicheck’s ID authentication technology has proven to be highly effective in authenticating identity in less than a second using existing mobile devices or point-of-sale scanners.

The program is underwritten by the city of Clemson. Participating regional businesses will use the same tool currently used by the Clemson City Police Department and regional technology early adopter businesses such as Tiger Town Tavern. Similar programs already exist, such as the program with the City of Charleston, which was made permanent after a highly successful pilot project that brought together community leaders, police, businesses and the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. The goal of the program is to reduce under-age drinking and protect young people by preventing under-age people from accessing alcohol using fake IDs, while continuing to ensure that residents and visitors to the area can confidently enjoy everything the community has to offer.

WHAT ARE THEY SAYING:

Clemson Mayor Robert Halfaker: “This promising program is an impressive example of what we can achieve when we come together for the benefit of our residents, our businesses and visitors to our beautiful community. I want to thank Chief Campos for his leadership. I would also like to thank Cameron Farish, Intellicheck and all local businesses involved for their dedicated efforts.”

Clemson Police Chief Jorge Campos: “Our department faces challenges in fighting crime and quality of life issues in our city. Giving our business owners tools to help us with these issues will help reduce the need for police intervention. Ending underage access to alcohol is an important part of our continued focus on community well-being is that fake IDs have become so sophisticated that they are impossible to catch with visual inspection or low-tech tools as I have seen its impact, I believe, that this partnership will prove to be a positive force for change.”

Tavern owner in Tiger Town and member of the Economic Development Advisory Committee Cameron Farish: “Preventing underage drinking is a responsibility we all share. This technology has made a difference in the Triple Ts and, as a member of the Economic Development Advisory Committee, I am confident that by working together, we can make a significant contribution to the security and economic well-being of our community.”

Clemson University Healthy Campus Director Jennifer Gorey: “This effort is a very important step for our community in addressing high-risk drinking. We know that behaviors established in college-aged people often persist throughout their lives. Research shows that drinking alcohol under the age of 21 can interfere with a normal adolescent brain In addition, underage drinking contributes to a number of acute consequences such as injuries, sexual assaults, alcohol overdoses and deaths – including those from motor vehicle crashes vehicles.

Intellicheck CEO Brian Lewis: “We are working with law enforcement, businesses and community leaders across the country to address the challenges that come with sophisticated fake IDs. We appreciate the opportunity to expand the partnership we already enjoy with the Clemson Police Department and businesses like Tiger Town Tavern. I am confident that this program will demonstrate its effectiveness and quickly become a must-have technology solution for businesses, enabling them to accurately and quickly validate the IDs of age-appropriate customers purchasing alcoholic beverages, ensuring fast service , while preventing the dangers and tragic outcomes that too often result from underage drinking.”
