Charles Bukowski’s poignant poem The Bluebird inspired Theater Artibus’ new play of the same name. Buba Bashishvili creates and performs the work, which is based on his personal immigration story and the experiences of countless others who have left their homes.

“I did it pantomime-style because we never hear about immigrants. We never hear them speak. We just see the images and then they arrive and do things,” Basishvili said. “They make things happen, but we never hear them.”

The Blue Bird at the Artibus Theatre plays through April 7 at the Savoy Denver.

How we choose our events: The CO Arts Spotlight highlights events across the state to give readers an idea of the breadth of arts and cultural events in Colorado, it is not—and cannot be—an exhaustive list of all weekly events. Posts are not testimonials or reviews. Each week’s list is published on Thursday and is not updated. Some groups that appear on the list may also be financial sponsors of CPR, but have no input into our editorial selection.
