DAVID VINCENT Is ‘Still On The Fence’ About Recording New Music With I AM MORBID

In a new interview with Robert Walton of The Metal Meltdown, ex PRAYING ANGEL bassist/vocalist David Vincent was asked if he has any plans to record new music I’M SICKthe group that has spent the past few years exclusively performing material that Vincent recorded with PRAYING ANGEL. He replied (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Well, there was some discussion about that. I’m still on the grid. I’m on the fence about this because there are expectations with this. And gosh, when you have the catalog that I do and a formula that was part of that catalog, it may or may not be a difficult thing. I mean there are some days where I feel very inspired to do it, [and] there are other days when I say to myself, “This is like old wine. And young wine does not…” Part of its beauty is its age. So, I don’t know. This is an ongoing discussion, but I have nothing to announce at this time.”

When Walton noted that EMPEROR‘c Ihsan unwilling to make a new album with the legendary Norwegian black metal band because he thinks it will never live up to the fans’ expectations, David seemingly agreed. “Okay, Ihsan is a good friend of mine,” he said. “I respect him a lot as an artist and I actually agree with him. There’s something to it.

“There were offers [for I AM MORBID to make new music] — significant offers — but for me it’s not all about the money. I mean, everyone has bills to pay. We are all human, we all have needs, but my artistic needs outweigh any greed that might get in the way. I don’t let my needs drive me to anything. When it comes to art, it’s as pure and organic as possible. And I don’t want to admit those considerations.”

In addition to Vincent, I’M SICK includes another ex PRAYING ANGEL member Pedro “Pete” Sandoval (drums), along with guitarists Richie Brown (DEAD, THE ABSENCE, TRIVIUM) and Bill Hudson (A NORTHERN TALE, DORO).

In October 2022 I’M SICK broke up with the guitarist Kelly McLaughlin (POSSESSED, DEVILLIC, A WICKED GHOST) and replace it with brown.

brown made his live debut with I’M SICK at Scream Fest in Colombia.

I’M SICKThe spring 2022 European tour was a first Sandoval and Vincent played together for 12 years.

Sandovalwho now lives his life as a born-again Christian, was forced to leave PRAYING ANGEL in 2010 after undergoing surgery for a prolapsed disc.

Vincent said Invisible oranges in a December 2013 interview that Pete had “found Jesus,” which meant that Sandoval and PRAYING ANGEL were no longer “compatible”.

Sandoval spent much of the last decade recording and touring with TERRORISTwhose latest studio album, “Caustic Attack”was released in October 2018 via The final entries.

Three years ago, Sandoval released an Instagram video in which he answered some of the most frequently asked questions about his time with PRAYING ANGEL. He said: “I’ve been asked who is my favorite singer or what era is my favorite – the era with David Vincent or with Steve Tucker. Well, I want to tell you that I love both eras. I had fun. I had a great time working with David Vincentand had a great time working with Steve Tucker as well. So, from “Altars of Madness” [1989] to “heretic” [2003], they are all masterpieces for me. We worked a lot [on] these albums. So I tell you my answer, I don’t have a favorite album, I don’t have a favorite era, I don’t have a favorite singer – I love them all. I had a great time in both eras with each album.”

Sandoval added: “And as for the album released in 2011” — meaning PRAYING ANGELis controversial “Divine Madness” LP — “please don’t ask me any questions about it because I have no comments about it — no comments at all, man. I stay who I am, I did what I did, and I’m so happy and grateful that he did what I did with these guys.”

In an email chat with Brazil in 2011 Like Extremo, Sandoval was asked for his opinion “Divine Madness”which includes industrial and electronic elements in PRAYING ANGEL traditional death metal sound. “No comment! I’m not playing on this album,” he wrote. He was then asked about what he thought he would have done differently “Divine Madness” had played on the recording. “More extreme deathgrind metal and less DJ, boring awful typical, less industrial experimental, same as any boring bull!” he said. “This is not what SICK is all for! …Hmmmmm, and I really don’t care…!”

Vincent to the left PRAYING ANGEL in 2015. He has since been replaced by a returnee Steve Tuckerwho previously handled bass and vocals PRAYING ANGEL‘c “Formulas Fatal to the Flesh”, “Gateway to Destruction” and “heretic” LP.

In a May 2019 interview Jorge Boots from “Metal Global” radio show that is broadcast on Portuguese public television and radio RTP, Vincent said he had every right to perform PRAYING ANGELclassic songs with I’M SICK. “Times come and life works the way it works,” Vincent said. “And there are times when… It’s like a marriage—sometimes they don’t always work forever. But that doesn’t mean the children we had together that I don’t still love my children. Although Trey [Azagthoth, MORBID ANGEL guitarist and sole remaining original member] and I have some irreconcilable differences which in no way prevent me from still having the love and passion for all my children.”

Asked what he has to say to people who insist he shouldn’t play PRAYING ANGELearly material of without the other members of the classic line-up of the band, David said: “There are examples of this exact situation… I mean when Ozzy [Osbourne] to the left BLACK SABBATHit didn’t stop him from playing “paranoid” every night, even though he didn’t write the song. I wrote all the songs I sing. So I really don’t understand this. But different people are attached to different things. And they have their opinion, and I have mine. And I really don’t consider that kind of negativity. I don’t have him in my life.”

in 2019 Vincent released “Something Evil Happens”his supergroup’s debut album THE LAST ONEalso featuring the guitarist Rune Eriksen (formerly of Chaos) and CRYPTOPSIA drummer Flo Mounier. Subsequent efforts, “Epic”arrived earlier this month.

in 2017 Vincent released his debut country single, “Drinkin’ With The Devil”.
