Shocking new footage shows the moment a mass brawl broke out at a North Carolina high school, leaving one student dead and another in hospital.

One student, wearing a gray hoodie with a black puffer jacket over it, corners another student in a red hoodie and then punches him.

The two rush into the school’s gymnasium, followed by dozens of screaming and cheering students taking pictures on their phones.

A fight ensues, with one student on the ground pulling out a knife and repeatedly stabbing another student in the leg and groin. As the students spun and ran, no one was on the ground. But one of the students was declared dead and the second was hospitalized.

Two ambulances were seen leaving Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School, each followed by a police car, early Monday afternoon.

Police said they had arrested a suspect but did not say what led to the fight and fatal incident.

None of the names of the students involved have been released.

The initial call came in around 11 a.m. when a school resource officer called for 911 and backup saying a student had been stabbed.

A short time later, another student was found with stab-like injuries.

“He’s losing consciousness right now.” We’re in the main gym,” a female voice was heard saying over the law enforcement radio.

A male voice said, “Can you make sure the administrators have locked down the school?”

According to Raleigh police, a fight broke out involving several students. The incident was described as a “serious assault” in a social media post.

However, the department added: “The site has been secured and this appears to be an isolated incident.” Please avoid the area around the school.’

Superintendent Robert Taylor offered his condolences during a news conference. “As a parent, I can’t imagine getting that call,” he said

A follow-up message informed parents that the school would remain on code red lockdown due to the ongoing investigation, but that a “controlled” dismissal would occur at the usual time.

The lockdown was in effect until 2:20 p.m. local time.

The carpool students were bused to the Walnut Creek Amphitheater to be reunited with their families.

Superintendent Robert Taylor offered his condolences during a news conference.

He said Wake County does not have metal detectors at school entrances, but school staff can search students if they have “reasonable suspicion that a student has a weapon.”

Taylor said the student suspected of stabbing the other did not raise any concerns, but said their policies will now be reviewed.

“As a parent, I can’t imagine getting that call,” he said.

“However, most importantly, I pledge my determination; schools should be a safe haven for students and staff.

“Following today’s tragedy, we will be reviewing all of our safety processes and protocols.”

Classes are canceled for Tuesday.

“Our hearts go out to the victim’s family,” the school said in a statement.

“Please keep them and all those affected by this loss in your thoughts.

“Please know that the student who passed away was a valued member of our school community and we mourn this loss along with his loved ones.”
