Isaac Hanson among local music artists participating in #GivingTunesday

Isaac Hanson of Tulsa-based pop trio Hanson is one of more than 30 artists who will perform live concerts on their social media channels on November 28 as part of #GivingTunesday.

In its sixth year, #GivingTunesday is hosted in the spirit of Giving Tuesday by the Red Dirt Relief Fund, a nonprofit serving Oklahoma music creators in need, as a way to thank fans and donors for their support.

Tulsa native Caitlin Butts, whose song “What Else Can She Do” was ranked among Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Best Songs of 2022, joins artists such as Chris Combs, Rigby Summer, Jacob Tovar, Jesse Aycock, Jonny Mullenax and more perform live online during #GivingTunesday. Cassie Latshaw will host a live show from Mercury Lounge Tulsa with a rotation of more than 15 singer/songwriters from 6-8pm

Tulsa music maker, rapper and community activist Steph Simon will lead his McLain High School music students in a performance of a song as part of TMC Records, a multimedia/record label created for current students at the school.

“I’m teaching them something I needed when I started rapping in high school,” Simon said in a news release. “It’s like high school basketball — someone coaches you in the sport and it can lead to something bigger in your life. We make music together and it can create opportunities for these kids in the future.”

As a way to thank music creators for supporting the cause, RDRF will also be hosting a Musician Appreciation Party in the Mercury Lounge tonight from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. All Oklahoma music creators are invited to a free barbecue dinner. free earplugs through the RDRF SoundCheck program , free enrollment counseling from Cardinal Rule Insurance (open enrollment continues until December 15th) and may be entered into a drawing for services such as a free eye exam by Dr. Kyle Tate, a free dental exam by Tulsa Dental Center, solo acoustic music video by TaylorTown Productions, $50 gift card by Guitar House of Tulsa, social media reel production by Cole Yearwood, and more.

Since 2012, the Red Dirt Relief Fund has provided over $750,000 in aid to over 800 Oklahoma music creators, ranging from worship musicians to hip-hop producers and red dirt songwriters to stagehands. The grants fund living expenses such as rent, utilities and medical bills while these individuals recover from unavoidable emergencies.

Giving Tuesday is the largest international day of giving, created in 2012 to shine a light on philanthropy after the traditional shopping days, Black Friday and Cyber ​​Monday.
