Two weeks into the UFL’s 2024 season, much of the on-field focus so far has been — surprise — on the kickers.

Michigan Panthers running back Jake Bates has more than a strong case for being invited to an NFL team’s training camp this summer. After hitting a game-winning 64-yarder in Week 1, Bates went 62 yards last week. It would even be historic if he kicked field goals in the NFL. Only once in NFL history has a kicker gone 60+ yards in back-to-back weeks (Brett Maher for the Dallas Cowboys in 2019). according to ESPN stats and information.

Elsewhere, Donald De La Haye’s football comeback – better known as Deestroying – suffered a major setback as he fractured his neck trying to tackle.

The Birmingham Stallions — who were winners of the 2022 and 2023 USFL Championship games — are off to a 2-0 start. So did the Wade Phillips-coached San Antonio Brammas, who pulled off an incredible comeback win last week. The Arlington Renegades — who won the 2023 XFL Championship Game — and the Houston Roughnecks are still looking for their first wins.

UFL games can be streamed on ESPN+ or the Fox Sports app depending on which network is broadcasting the games.

What is UFL?

The UFL is a merger between two competing spring professional football leagues, the USFL and the XFL.

The recreated USFL—with team names reminiscent of its 1980 predecessor—began play in April 2022, with all eight teams headquartered and playing home games in Birmingham, Alabama. For the 2023 season, the league has expanded its home stadium footprint.

Danny Garcia and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson bought the XFL out of bankruptcy for $15 million and restarted the 2020 version of the league. The XFL was able to successfully complete its inaugural season in 2023.

The new unified league was announced on 31 December 2023.
