Minnesota Lynx Announce Federated Insurance as New Jersey Patch Partner

The Minnesota Lynx have a new sponsorship with one of their longest-standing corporate partners that will be featured on forward jerseys beginning with the 2024 WNBA season.

The Lynx announced Monday that they have agreed to a multi-year partnership with Federated Insurance, a Minnesota company based in Owatonna, to partner with the Jersey Patch organization.

This new partnership between Lynx and Federated Insurance will focus on local connections and the elevation of women’s sports while promoting significant impact and change in communities across the state.

“With Federated Insurance as our new jersey partner, we’re very excited to bring back this local angle,” David King, Lynx senior vice president of corporate partnerships told Canis Hoopus. “For us to have the front of our jersey literally sewn into the fabric of the team that is Owatonna, Minnesota (with Federated Insurance) and Rochester, Minnesota with the Mayo Clinic, that’s special.

“For them, it’s certainly a physical representation of the story of what we’re creating, which is investing in young girls in Minnesota.” They’ve done an amazing job raising money for Big Brothers Big Sisters, so they’re a purposeful company. It’s a lot of fun for us when we can connect doing good in our partnerships,” King continued. “When you have a partner like Federated where this is a priority, it’s really exciting.”

Federated Insurance, a national insurance and risk management organization serving the property, casualty and life insurance needs of clients in select industries, is entering its 20th year of partnership with the Lynx organization in 2024.

This expanded partnership between Lynx and Federated Insurance strengthens the relationship between two organizations that embrace local connections and continue to remain dedicated to uplifting the communities where their employees and players live, work and play.

“We are extremely proud to show our support for women’s professional sports as the new Jersey Patch partner for the Minnesota Lynx,” Federated Insurance Chairman Jeff Fetters said via a statement released by the Lynx organization. “The Lynx are an extremely talented team both on and off the court and a true source of pride for our state. Federated Insurance is fortunate to have a long-standing relationship with the Lynx as our two organizations share many of the same values – including a passion for giving back to the community and a strong commitment to a championship culture.”

Since 2004, when the partnership between Lynx and Federated Insurance began, Lynx has supported Federated Insurance’s annual charity event, the Federated Challenge, which has raised more than $52 million to support Big Brothers Big Sisters youth mentoring and education programs. The Lynx plan to continue working alongside Federated Insurance on numerous community-focused initiatives in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters in both the Southern Minnesota and Twin Cities regions.

“They are unique in that they truly believe in the fact that they can do well by doing good.” It’s something that they really live and it’s just another part of it for them. … They want to be able to use that as a story as they go out and tell people about the work they’re doing in the community, the work they’re doing with teams like the Lynx and how they’re investing in women’s sports,” King said.

“That’s one of the reasons why we’ve always been really committed to finding a local partner.” It just so happens that they have been partners for 20 years. When we started talking about what this could mean for them and the Federated Challenge, I think they were as excited about it as we were.”

Minnesota will begin wearing the Federated Insurance logo on the front of all team jerseys during the 2024 season, including the Heroine, Explorer and Rebel Edition uniforms. The first chance to see the jersey patch will be during Minnesota’s first preseason game on May 4 at Target Center and throughout the 2024 season, which begins May 14 against the Seattle Storm.
