Princess Kate’s uncle has revealed what he really thinks of her, hours after she made her first public appearance since surgery

Catherine, Princess of Wales’s uncle, Gary Goldsmith, has shared an update on his niece as she recovers from abdominal surgery, calling her ‘just perfect’.

Goldsmith, who is the younger brother of Kate’s mother Carole Middleton, entered the UK Celebrity Big Brother house, sharing insights about his family and his encounters with the royals.

Upon his arrival, he was asked by the show’s host AJ Odudu if he thought Princess Kate would be watching his efforts in the house, the UK Independent reported.

“If it’s her, she’ll be behind the couch,” he joked.

Calling Kate “just perfect”, he also recalled the first time he met her husband and heir to the throne, Prince William.

Goldsmith remembered Kate cooking and William asked him: “Hello, may I offer you a cup of tea.”

“Very normal,” he said of the royal couple.

Kate Carroll and Michael Middleton’s parents are believed to have been furious with Goldsmith’s decision to take part in the reality show and feared what it might reveal to a national audience.

“Gary said he was read to about the riot by Kate’s mum Carole and her dad Michael,” a source told The Sun.

“They’re not happy he’s going on Celebrity Big Brother.

“It’s maddening for them. Kate doesn’t need this stress.

“Carol is his sister so there will always be love, but they don’t see eye to eye on a lot of things anymore.

“He said he doesn’t have their blessing to enter the house, but he’s going full steam ahead anyway.

“Gary has become the black sheep of the Middleton family in the public eye.”

Goldsmith is said to adore her niece and “want to protect” her family.

“With Kate out of the public eye at the moment and William taking on a lot of work, the last thing they want is for Uncle Gary to cause any embarrassment on TV,” the source added.

Goldsmith has previously been open about his dislike of Kate’s son-in-law Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

“I am particularly horrified by his vile confection of half-truths and complete fabrications because Kate is my adored niece,” he told The Sun in October 2023.

“Kate is self-sufficient, resourceful and extremely capable – she’s not a drama queen.”

The timing of Goldsmith’s arrival in the Celebrity Big Brother house comes as his sister Carole Middleton and Kate were spotted in a car near Windsor Castle, marking the first time the princess has been seen in public since Christmas.

Kate was spotted in the passenger seat of the car driven by Carol.

The princess covered her eyes with sunglasses and seemed to be smiling.

The surprise appearance comes after concerns over her health soared last week when her husband Prince William abruptly pulled out of his late godfather’s memorial service due to a “personal matter”.

A palace spokesman then issued a rare statement, reiterating that the palace had made it clear in January that the princess was not expected to be seen in public until after Easter.

“Kensington Palace made it clear in January the timeline for the Princess’ recovery and we will only provide significant updates.” This guidance remains in place,” the spokesperson told the Daily Mail.

The palace confirmed on January 17 that Kate, 42, had undergone successful “planned” abdominal surgery and will step back from royal duties until around Easter.

No details of the operation were given, but a palace spokesman said the condition was “non-cancerous”.

“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this announcement will generate,” it said in a statement in January.

“She hopes the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normalcy as possible for her children; and her desire to keep her personal medical information confidential.’

The last time Kate was seen before she was pictured in the car near Windsor Castle was 71 days ago on Christmas Day, when she attended a church service with William and their children, George, Charlotte and Louis.
