The offense shines as the Titans run Jacksonville in both games on Saturday

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Baseball dominated Jacksonville in both games of Saturday’s doubleheader, 13-2 and 15-3, to sweep the weekend series at Goodwin Field. Fullerton is now 7-7 on the year.

The Titans dominated the weekend from start to finish, outscoring Jacksonville 40-7 over the three games.

First game (13-2)

Fullerton got off to a hot start in the first game, scoring four runs in the first inning on three hits. The Titans loaded the bases with the first three batters on a single, an error and a hit by pitch. Cam Burdick then drew five walks to bring in a run.

With the bases loaded and one out, Maddox Lata hit a bases-clearing double to give the Titans an early 4-0 lead.

The Titans extended their lead in the third inning on a two-run home run Jared Snyder to take a 6-0 lead. For Snyder, it was his first game, hit, home run and RBI as a Titan.

Fullerton extended its lead to 7-0 in the fourth inning after Latta’s sacrifice bunt to lead off Marcos Rosales.

Jacksonville got on the board with two runs in the top of the sixth inning before the Titans blew the game open with a six-run sixth inning on six hits. Lata, Draven Nushidacheating Moises Guzman, Eli Lopez and Rosales recorded an RBI in the inning.

Christian Rodriguez had a jump start for the Titans. The right-handed pitcher allowed two runs on five hits in 5.1 innings while walking just one hit and striking out a career-high 11.

The game was called after the bottom of the seventh inning due to the 10-run rule, which was decided before the game due to a doubleheader.

Second Game (15-3)

The second game of the day got off to a similar start as the Titans scored four runs in the first inning to take an early lead.

Colby Wallace started the scoring with an RBI double to right field to give Lopez the go-ahead run to score from second. Latta then smashed a three-run home run to left field to put the Titans up 4-0.

Fullerton kept pouring it on in the second inning, scoring a three-run RBI double by Burdick and a two-run single by Rosales to extend the lead to 7-0.

Jacksonville gained some momentum in the third inning with three runs to cut the Titans’ lead to 7-3.

However, the Titans quickly responded with three runs in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Wallace hit a single through the right side of the infield to score Guzman and Lopez. Latta closed the inning with a sacrifice bunt to extend the lead to 10-3.

The Titans added two more runs in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Lopez and a triple by Nico Reggino. Lopez went 3-for-4 in the game with three runs and an RBI. The sophomore leads the team with a .370 batting average.

Fullerton broke the 10-run mark with three runs in the sixth inning. Alia Ramos sparked the Titans offense with his first varsity hit in his first game of the season. Ramos was immediately followed Waldie Perez who recorded his first Div. I also hit an RBI to bring Latta home. Guzman then singled to bring home Ramos and Perez to put the Titans up 15-3.

Jason Blood (1-0) picked up the win for the Titans in the second game of the doubleheader after allowing just two hits over 4.2 innings while walking one and striking out four batters. In 15 innings this season, Blood has a 1.80 ERA while walking just three batters and striking out 16.

Latta had a career day, going a combined 4-for-5 at the plate with four runs, nine RBI and two walks. Latta had five RBIs in game one and four RBIs in game two.
