A woman who stayed at the ‘Pink Palace of the Pacific’ in Hawaii for a whopping $530 a night has revealed why she would never book a room at the ‘ordinary’ and ‘dated’ hotel again.
Carly Karamana is a Disney-obsessed content creator who often shares her thoughts on the delicious food at the brand’s theme parks.
However, the adventure expert recently turned his attention to a different kind of experience and offered his review of Hawaii’s most aesthetically beautiful five-star resort, The Royal Hawaiian.
And while it’s been a lifelong dream for Carly to stay at the tourist hotspot, she left feeling very excited about the rooms, despite paying more than $500 for her one-night stay.
The content creator and travel writer opened up about his experience at the expensive resort to Business Insider.
She revealed that while on holiday with her mother, the duo decided to stay at the resort, which has been dubbed the ‘Pink Palace of the Pacific’.
Carly admitted that staying in the Barbie-like home was her “dream”.
“The iconic 528-room hotel is known for its pink facade and Mai Tai cocktails. It’s also one of the first downtown Honolulu hotels in the heart of all the Waikiki Beach action,” she told the outlet.
Carly had extremely high expectations for her stay, but was disappointed upon arrival.
She booked a room for one night in the cheapest section available, which was the West Wing. For one night, the room Carly stayed in costs $480. She also had to pay a $50 resort fee.
And despite splashing out a lot of money, the travel writer explained that he found his room quite boring.
She told Insider: “Once I saw my room, I wasn’t impressed. It looked very plain and quite dated – especially because of the patterned carpet. I also found it lacking in natural light. ‘
The room contained two large beds covered with white duvets. It was decorated with pink wallpaper and the floor was smoothed with a brown carpet.
And while the beds leave a lot to be desired, Carly noted that the bathrooms are thankfully more “modern.”
Although she loved the marble tiles, glass shower doors and mirrors with built-in lights, she wanted the space to be much larger.
While she’s not obsessed with her room, Carly fell in love with the resort itself — adding that the beautiful greenery and outdoor seating gave her expansive views of the stunning ocean.
She said: “The green landscaping and flowers around the property felt super lush. I also loved seeing the hotel’s pool, which is surrounded by the iconic pink and white sun loungers, cabanas and umbrellas.”
And since the rooms were average, Carly spent most of her time on the lush beaches she fell in love with. However, for the price she was paying to stay at the resort, Carly wasn’t thrilled about having to pay an extra fee to lounge on the chairs.
Fortunately, the money he saved from lying on towels on the sandy beaches he was able to use on the delicious alcoholic drinks.
“One of the main reasons I wanted to visit The Royal Hawaiian was for the famous mai tais. The Royal Hawaiian is said to be the first to serve the Hawaiian version of the Mai Tai, which is now the islands’ most famous drink. Luckily, the Royal Hawaiian’s mai tai bar is right on the beach, so it offers amazing views of the island,” she explained.
“On my trip, I ordered a Classic Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai for $20. The price was comparable to what I was paying for other mai tais on the island, and this rum cocktail was one of the best drinks I tried on my trip.
Overall, Carly had an average stay and enjoyed her time, but wouldn’t spend the money to stay at the Rose Palace again.
She told the outlet: “I will definitely be back at The Royal Hawaiian bar for mai tais, but I won’t be staying overnight again. ‘
