Art and all things art will abound this weekend on Beach Street as the 3rd Annual Daytona Beach Arts Festival unfolds Saturday and Sunday in Daytona Beach.

The centerpiece of the event will be a juried fine art show featuring works by numerous Florida and regional artists offering paintings, crafts, photography and other works.

There will also be a craft market highlighting the skills of local artists, craftspeople and traders. Street art will also be highlighted, with a chalk art competition that will turn the pavements into palettes for an assortment of realistic and abstract creations.

Other diversions include an array of musical performances on an outdoor stage, a Volusia County Schools student art exhibit and an interactive Art Haus children’s area.

Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays; 10:00-16:00 Sunday. Free entrance and parking.

The music rules in DeLand

A different kind of celebration will be held in West Volusia as the 12thth The annual DeLandapalooza original music and arts festival presents local and regional music acts Saturday in downtown DeLand.

The event will feature more than 130 singers, rappers and bands on 20 stages in the city’s historic business district along Woodland Boulevard.

The lineup will focus on an eclectic mix of genres including rock, jazz, blues, country, hip-hop, electronica, folk, Christian rock, metal and reggae.

Along with the music, the festival will also host an art show featuring the works of more than three dozen local artists. There will also be an assortment of vendors, food trucks and a beer garden.

Open from 1pm to 1am on Saturdays. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. You can purchase advance tickets online at ssa.cc or at Steve’s Downtown Music in DeLand and Atlantic Sounds in Daytona Beach.

Celebrate space at MOAS

If all the buzz surrounding the Great American Eclipse has piqued your interest in the celestial realm, you can indulge that inclination on Saturday in Space Day at the Daytona Beach Museum of Arts and Sciences.

Billed as the museum’s largest space event of the year, it’s an interactive family-oriented program that focuses on the science, exploration and beauty of space.

Activities include lectures, performances in the Lohmann Planetarium, hands-on activities and observing the sun with telescopes in the museum’s front courtyard, weather permitting.

For the event, the museum will offer displays and activities from organizations that include GE Volunteers, Embry-Riddle Air Force University’s ERFSEDS Rocket Club, the Amateur Astronomy Club and the Society of Women Engineers, as well as ERAU astronomy professors.

Opening hours are from noon to 5 p.m

The event is free for museum members or included in the museum’s regular paid admission of $19 for adults, $17 for seniors and students; $10 for ages 6-17; free for ages 5 and under.

Pet Palooza celebrates furry friends

April is National Pet Month, so it’s a good time to celebrate the bond between humans and their animal companions on 5th Annual Pet Palooza Sunday at Club Mosaic in Daytona Beach.

Billed as “the ultimate pet party,” the celebration will feature a food truck and DJ, a pet costume contest, vendors offering an array of pet-related items and services, and a pet food drive. Proceeds will benefit the Halifax Humane Society.

In Flagler, a tribute to Manilov

The music of an enduring pop icon will be the soundtrack to “Daybreak: The Music & Passion of Barry Manilow,” a tribute show Saturday at Flagler Auditorium in Palm Coast.

Veteran musician Joe Hite will channel Manilow’s songs and style with the help of an eight-piece band that will offer pitch-perfect renditions of “Mandy,” “Can’t Smile Without You,” “Copacabana” and other monster hits.

Tickets for the 7pm show start at $54.
