Latest additions to Saving Country Music’s current top 25 playlist (#138)

Imagine going on the internet to complain about how bad country music is today when we have such an embarrassment of riches on the independent side of country music right under our noses. 2024 keeps getting better and better for the best songs.

The Saving Country Music Top 25 playlist was created to keep you informed of all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available in most streaming formats (see below), or you can simply use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.

Latest additions:

Joe Stamm with Charles Wesley Godwin – The Flower of the Everglades – Highly acclaimed but overlooked songwriter and frontman Joe Stam has just released a new 4 track EP called Allegheny recorded with Charles Wesley Godwin’s band The Allegheny High. The jewel in the crown is this collaboration with Godwin himself, telling a story from the southern latitudes. Hopefully this moment will give Joe Stamm the wider national recognition that he and the Joe Stamm Band deserve.

The Wilder Blue – “I’m Your Man” “Isn’t there anything this Texas supergroup can’t do?” Getting ready to hit the road opening stadiums for Luke Combs, The Wilder Blue prove they can also tap into the revival of the ’90s country sound and style.

Sarah Shock and the Disarmers – “Dogbane” – Only Sarah Shock and the Disarmers could take a foreboding look at the coming dystopia and still make it sound so damn good and infectious. River Shook’s mastery of melody is almost unmatched in country music. “Dogbane” is from the new album Revelations.

Kimmi Bitter – “I Can’t Unlove You” – Kimmi Bitter has been stunning us with classic country singles for several years now, drawing comparisons to Patsy Cline. But she proved it with her recent release The old school that he can do it for an entire album. Perhaps no song is a better example than the stunning “I Can’t Unlove You.”

Pat Reedy – “Should You Ever” – Reedy gets a second track on the playlist with this great 50’s rocking rocker style song written for Luke Bell who died tragically in 2022. He was still alive, but he wasn’t really talking to any of us here in Nashville. Reedy says. “I guess it’s too late for Luke, but I hope it’s not for anyone else.

John Moreland – “The Future Comes Fast” – Moreland’s surprise new album Visitor is a welcome treat and a return to the more acoustic and restrained approach of the acclaimed albums from earlier in his career. It’s full of songwriting gems, including the opening track, which talks about the succumbing to technology that we all seem to know is coming but seems powerless to stop or even slow down.

Jesse Daniel – “Coming Apart At The Seams” – There are few harder working people in country music than Jesse Daniel, and a lot of his songs are about working hard, staying honest and sticking to your guns. He can sing about turning your life around with hard work, because that’s what he’s done himself over the past few years as a fast-rising indie country star. New album Counting miles out June 7th.
