Trump, Biden could win 2024 nomination after today’s Republican and Democratic primaries in Washington, Georgia, Mississippi

Former President Donald Trump may be able to win the Republican presidential nomination on Tuesday after the results of the four GOP primary contests in Georgia, Washington, Mississippi and Hawaii came in. President Biden could also win the nomination on Tuesday.

Republicans in Georgia, Mississippi and Washington will hold primaries while Hawaii hosts the GOP caucuses. Democrats will hold primaries in Georgia, Mississippi, Washington and the Northern Mariana Islands, and Democrats overseas will also vote.

Trump’s remaining primary challenger, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, withdrew his bid for the White House after Tuesday’s primary. Mr. Biden has no major rivals.

Trump dominated Republicans without ever debating any of his primary opponents and dominated early state nominating contests.

The former president is also entering the general election phase of the presidential campaign against 91 offenses in four criminal cases. His first criminal trial is scheduled to begin on March 25 in New York, where he faces 34 charges related to alleged “hush money” payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential election, Trump also faced state criminal charges in Georgia for alleged interference in the 2020 presidential election, as well as federal charges in Washington, DC. He is too facing federal charges in Florida over his handling of classified documents since his presidency.

There are 161 GOP delegates at stake in Tuesday’s four contests. Trump has more than 1,075 delegates, according to CBS News estimates, and is closing in on the 1,215 delegates needed to secure the nomination. There are 254 Democratic delegates up for grabs in the March 12 contests, with Mr. Biden closing in on the 1,968 he needs to win.

Trump will be the first Republican in history to ever secure the presidential nomination three times in a row. Richard Nixon won the Republican nomination three times, though not in consecutive cycles.

For Georgia Republicans, 59 delegates are on the line; Mississippi has 40 delegates; in Washington it is 43 delegates; in the Hawaii faction, 19 delegates are up for grabs.
