Former President Donald Trump called out Fulton County District Attorney Fannie Willis on Saturday, accusing her of lying about the money involved in what he described as her “sex games” with her one-time boyfriend and special prosecutor Nathan Wade.
“Where did Fannie get all that money?” Trump wondered on his Truth Social.
Willis and Wade, who were supposed to prosecute Trump’s lawsuit over alleged interference in the Georgia election, were the subject of hearings before Supreme Court Justice Scott McAfee involving their secret relationship and whether it constituted a conflict of interest.
Attorneys for Trump and his co-defendants allege that Willis paid Wade large sums for his work and then improperly benefited when he paid for vacations for the two.
Willis said she reimbursed Wade in cash.
“There is no way she paid her lover, ‘Prosecutor, Nathan Wade back,'” Trump wrote.
“She made up the money story when she found out her ‘sexcapades’ were paid for by the people of Georgia. Again, where is the money and where did it come from?’
“The fact is,” he continued, “no cash was paid. It was just an excuse she made up after she got caught. The case cannot be closed until this is determined.
Trump’s legal team faced an Atlanta courtroom with attorneys from the Fulton County District Attorney’s office for the last time Friday, making final arguments before a judge decides whether Willis and Wade will be removed from the criminal racketeering case they led against the former president.
“In any case, they were lovers and friends long before this witch hunt started,” Trump also wrote on Saturday.
“They wanted money and fame! Worked with Biden’s DOJ (spent days with them in D.C.) in pursuit of Crooked Joe, ME’s opponent. Terrible things! This case must be dropped – and a great shame on Georgia.
Willis and Wade admitted to a secret affair after it was revealed in January, but insist the relationship became official in 2022 after filing the lawsuit against the former president.
But witnesses, including Willis’ former best friend and employee and Wade’s ex-partner, say they knew about the lawyers’ affair as early as 2019.
Whether Willis is kicked off the prosecution team may depend on whether Judge Scott McAfee finds evidence that their relationship began before the time they admitted they were lovers.
He said at the close of court on Friday that he “hopes” to make a decision within the next two weeks.
